I had recently landed a respectable corporate IT career. My life then at age 30 was right on target toward material success. Yet inwardly I had long felt that my life was rudderless and lacking greater purpose.

Despite having means, there was no end. Without a properly defined destination, my days were increasingly feeling void of meaning.

Though a frequent traveler, my destinations had become routine. My world was encompassed within a bubble of a familiar western perspective. My courageous decision to cut-away from the familiarity of my known world was already overdue, but not too late. Travel to India brought me to embrace life beyond far beyond my limited imagination.

My journey was purposely designed to be the opposite of anything resembling tourism. Opting to visit a new friend in a rural Indian village hospital was the plan. Given that she lived without electricity and running water, I was sure to face rethinking of my life. Much of what I took for granted would not be available, no matter what.
